Living Faith Includes the Love of God (Charity)

For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision: but faith which worketh by charity.

1 Corinthians 13:2

And if I should have prophecy, and should know all mysteries, and all knowledge; and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

We Are Saved by Faith Alone

Saving Faith Produces Works of Love

1 John 3:16-18 (Works prove that we have love, without love faith is dead)

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

James 2:17

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

James 2:20

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

James 2:26

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Matthew 7:16-20 (A Saving faith, alive by love, produces fruit i.e. works)

Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

Faith is a gift

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, that no man should boast.

1 Corinthians 12:9 (Faith is listed as a gift of the spirit)

To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit.

For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake.

Formal Cause of Justification

But to him that worketh not, but believeth in him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is reputed to justice.
